ABOUT WEST END SECONDARY SCHOOL
Dear Future WESS Students and Parents:
I am proud to introduce myself as the founding principal of West End Secondary School! I began my career at IS 73 in Maspeth, Queens, where I taught in several settings. My tenure at IS 73 evolved as I completed my second Master's degree in Educational Leadership and began serving as the Assistant Principal. From there, I transitioned to the role of achievement coach, serving more than 25 schools. In 2007, I wrote a proposal to open and lead Marsh Avenue Expeditionary Learning School.
From 2008-2013, I served as the founding principal of the Marsh Avenue Expeditionary Learning School, a highly successful middle school well-known on Staten Island for its emphasis on rigorous coursework, student leadership, and interdisciplinary programs.
As a regular presenter at the Expeditionary Learning National Conference, I facilitate learning opportunities for other educators on student engagement, distributive leadership, and high quality instruction. Having been selected to host a National Site Seminar highlighting best practices in teacher pedagogy and student leadership, I brought together educators and administrators from all over the country.
After having served as superintendent of District 31, leading dedicated principals and devoted teachers, I have found that my true passion is working in a school building directly with students, teachers, and families. I am looking forward to developing a relationship with you based upon our shared commitment to children. The opportunity to work with your children throughout middle and high school at WESS promises a depth of interaction and warm support that will distinguish this school from others. Indeed, working with students and observing their growth over the years has always been the most fulfilling aspect of my career.
