The Arts at WESS
The arts are a vibrant and integral part of the student experience at West End Secondary School. Every young person at WESS engages in dance, music, film, and visual arts, allowing for a rich and well-rounded exploration of creative expression.
We are proud of our partnerships with Take 2 Film Academy and Marquee Studios, which provide our young people with the tools, expertise, and platforms to present their work in exciting, professional mediums. These collaborations not only deepen artistic skill but also give students the opportunity to see themselves as creators and storytellers with a public audience.
Each arts course at WESS culminates in a showcase or performance, where students share their learning and talents with peers, families, and the broader community. Whether it’s a visual arts exhibition, a short film screening, a musical performance, or a choreographed dance piece, these culminating moments are joyful celebrations of student voice, growth, and collaboration.
The arts are not siloed—they are woven throughout the curriculum as part of our expeditionary model of instruction. Our arts educators work tirelessly to foster transdisciplinary connections that enrich core academic content. From illustrating scientific concepts through visual art, to composing original scores inspired by historical events, the arts serve as a bridge between disciplines and a powerful vehicle for deep learning.
At WESS, we believe the arts build creativity, confidence, and community—and we are committed to ensuring all young people have access to meaningful, high-quality arts experiences that reflect their identities, passions, and potential.
