Evan

Evan was born and raised in Suffolk County on Long Island. He learned to love the water at an early age and enjoys spending time boating whenever and wherever he can. He attended Suffolk Community College, had a brief stint at Stony Brook University, and finished his Bachelors in Secondary Mathematics Education at St. Joseph's College. After working for a few years he went back to school to get his Masters degree at New York University. Since then he has enjoyed the connections he has made with students and is looking forward to meeting the students at WESS. In his spare time he enjoys reading, board games, and long walks through Prospect Park.

Marie

Marie is originally from Long Island, NY. As a student, she participated in cross country and track and was selected for the All-State band for playing the clarinet. After high school, she earned her degree in political science at George Washington University. After a brief move to Rhode Island and having spent time in Americorps on student mentoring programs, she found herself drawn back to NY and interested in continuing the work with kids she had done in Americorps. Marie started working as an assistant teacher at a small independent school in NYC and absolutely enjoyed working with the students. She then pursued her Masters in Math Education at SUNY Stony Brook. Upon graduation, she started teaching high school math in the Bronx, where she taught for seven years. While there, Marie developed a joy for creating and using problems that show students the beauty of math and learned that math is so much more than arriving at the correct answer. She loves seeing patterns in math and applying math to solve real-world problems. She enjoys sharing this passion for math with her students at WESS and learning what they are passionate about. In her spare time, Marie enjoys exercising, cooking, and spending time with her family. She enjoys telling stories about the funny things her 5-year-old daughter Alyssa thinks and the cute things her 2-year-old son Frankie does. She looks forward to welcoming all the new students and families to WESS!

Penny

Penny was born and raised in The Bronx, New York.  She graduated from SUNY Oneonta. with a BS in Business Economics. After working for over a decade in marketing, Penny went back to school to get her Childhood/Special Education Masters Degree at Touro University.  Since then, Penny has enjoyed the connections she has made with students over the past 11 years and is looking forward to meeting the students at WESS. In her spare time, Penny enjoys running, trips to the beach, and would love to get back into traveling.  Penny lives in Manhattan with her six year-old daughter.

Stacey

Stacey was born in Omaha, Nebraska. She spent her formative years in the suburbs, about an hour outside New York City. She has made her home in Manhattan for the past decade. It was clear from an early age that Stacey dreamed of becoming a teacher and loved being around children. As a young child, she often set up a classroom with her dolls and stuffed animals as students and read to them. She spent her teen years working as a counselor at a local summer camp and college breaks as a substitute teaching assistant in her local schools. Stacey achieved her dream of becoming an educator when she received her degree in Childhood Education with a concentration in Mathematics from SUNY Oneonta. For 7 years, she taught 7th-grade mathematics in the Bronx. During this time, she earned her Master's Degree in Childhood Special Education from CUNY Lehman. At her previous school, she was the head of the Math Department as well as the Math Team Coach. Stacey has been the recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award three times. Stacey’s favorite part of teaching is being able to instill the same love of math that she has in her students. She is a big believer in teaching mathematics through the use of manipulatives, hands-on activities, and being able to make what she is teaching relatable to the real world and to her students’ lives and personal interests. In her spare time, Stacey enjoys knitting, going to concerts, and is an avid traveler. She is excited to start her seventh year at WESS!
